2014: A Record-Breaking Year of Car Recalls

2014 set a new record for the number of vehicles recalled, according to a report by The New York Times. More than 60 million cars were recalled this year, beating the 2004 record of around 30 million. In all, about 700 recall announcements were made during the last 12 months.

Volkswagen Group of America has announced a new car recall due to a fire risk. About 38,000 2014-2015 VW Beetle, Jetta and Passat cars, as well as 2015 model year Golf and GTI vehicles, are being recalled because the engines may leak fuel.

An explosion occurred today at a southern Chinese automotive components factory, killing 17 workers. Also regarding China - a new report shows the country’s manufacturing activity fell for the first time in 7 months.
