Shipping Activity to Resume at West Coast Ports, BP Workers Join Strike at Refineries

West Coast ports shut down shipping operations over the weekend, but were expected to resume activities today. The decision to shut down 29 ports impacted exports of a variety of products, but a full port shutdown could cost the US economy $2 billion a day.

Workers at 2 Midwest BP oil refineries have joined the United Steelworkers nationwide strike. Now workers at 11 refineries in the US are striking due to disputes over better health benefits.

UK oil and gas company BG Group PLC has a new CEO sooner than expected. Helge Lund began the executive position following an agreement from Statoil ASA, his former employer.

American Apparel, too, has a new chief executive. Paula Schneider plans to make a number of changes to the company, including adding more planners, instilling more order and shifting its advertising campaigns.
