Samsung Buys Mobile Payment Company, US Grows At Slow Rate in January

Samsung has entered the smartphone payment sphere, acquiring mobile wallet startup firm LoopPay. The move will make it possible for Samsung to compete with other mobile payment services from Apple and Google.

The US economy improved at its slowest rate in 5 months during January, according to the latest report by the Conference Board. Its index of leading economic indicators rose just 0.2% last month.

Walmart will be spending more on employee payroll. The retail giant announced it would increase employee wages for 500,000 of its workers.

The White House has brought in its first ever chief data scientist, though it’s not clear exactly what the job will entail.
