Afternoon Coffee: US Import Prices Fall in March, Ohio Officials Want Fiat Chrysler to Keep Production in State

US import prices declined last month by 0.3%, following a rise in prices in February. In the last 12 months, import prices overall have fallen 10.5% – the largest drop since September 2009.

As Fiat Chrysler outgrows its current production plant in Toledo, Ohio, state and local government officials are looking to lure the automaker to expand its facility and continue operating in the area, by offering to fund the project.

General Motors announced it will stop making the Chevrolet Volt gas-electric hybrid car for 4 weeks this summer due to weak sales.

Electric transit bus maker Proterra, however, is constructing a second production plant in California due to an increase in demand.
