Afternoon Coffee: Weak US GDP Growth in Q1, iPhone Shipments Boost Apple’s Stance in Smartphone Market

US GDP increased during the first quarter of the year, though only by a mere 0.2%, according to the latest report from the Bureau of Economic Analysis. In comparison, the final quarter of 2014 saw GDP rise 2.2%.

Shipments of Apple's iPhone ramped up 16.7% in the first quarter of 2015, however, helping the tech company beat Samsung Electronics Co. in the global smartphone market.

Ford Motor Co. will recall 518,313 Ford Fusion, Lincoln MKZ and Ford Edge vehicles in North America due to a steering issue. Bolts in the steering gear motor could break, making it difficult for a driver to steer the car.

Sixty-two percent of procurement and sourcing professionals recently surveyed by Intesource say an effective sourcing strategy has a positive impact on their company’s profitability.
