Spend Matters 50/50: Selectica – A Provider to Know in 2015

100 companies - 100 days

Selectica is one of our 50 Providers to Know. We will be highlighting all 100 companies (50 to Know, 50 to Watch) in our 2015 Spend Matters Almanac over the span of 100 days. All companies are listed alphabetically in the almanac, and purposely not ranked. Our first 17 will include those that will be at the ISM Conference on May 3 and 4.

Selectica is an interesting organization for several reasons; one is its powerful contract lifecycle management solution, with which its name is practically synonymous.

The company has recently added Iasta (with primarily e-sourcing and related services) to its offering, making Iasta the first "Selectica company" business unit.

And even more recently, the firm has acquired b-pack, a European-born end-to-end procurement solution provider with an extremely impressive technology offering, albeit largely unknown in the US (but well worth evaluating).

Over the years, Spend Matters has followed the "component" companies that now make up the Selectica group and sees great potential for the bigger entity to combine its market insights (strong US and EU roots – with some global presence) and commercial connections, with strong technologies into an outstanding end-to-end source-to-pay solution.

In the near term, Selectica's offerings can be considered for several use cases:

  • Need to drive strategic sourcing – with or without support services
  • Need a best-of-breed CLM point solution
  • Need a broader procure-to-pay (P2P) platform

From the b-pack side of the house, the last bullet will be quite interesting to follow as the company now benefits from Selectica's and Iasta's stronger reach into large multinationals.
