Afternoon Coffee: US Manufacturing Sector Activity Remains Stable, Consumer Optimism Increases

Activity in the US manufacturing sector remained flat in April, according to the latest report from ISM. The April PMI came in at 51.5%, the same as March.

Consumer sentiment saw a boost last month, however, registering at 95.9 in April compared to the 93 seen in March. April’s optimism level is the highest since 2007.

US auto sales continue to pick up as well, with General Motors, Nissan and Ford (among others) reporting sales growth of 5% to 6% in April.

Telsa is expanding beyond the car industry, announcing it will sell a battery for home use called the “Powerwall.”
