Afternoon Coffee: More Small Business Adopt Cloud Services, Manufacturers Invest in New Technology

Small business owners are increasingly subscribing to cloud-based software services, with spending on such technology up 7% in 2014 compared to 2013. The new report from Intuit also showed 85% of small businesses plan to spend more on software over the next 5 years.

Manufacturing companies are also investing in new technologies to remain competitive. More than two-thirds of participants in a KPMG survey said they are focused on long-term innovation strategies that includes spending more on new manufacturing technologies.

US productivity took a dive of 3.1% in the first quarter of the year, more than originally predicted, according to the Labor Department.

In a push to become more sustainable and gain consumers trust that it is an “environmentally responsible” company, IKEA has pledged $1.13 billion for renewable energy projects to fight climate change.
