Zycus Horizon: Welcoming a New P2P Vendor

It’s about time. Zycus has finally gone mainstream with a full source-to-pay (S2P) suite inclusive of e-procurement after years of almost apologetically positioning procure to pay (P2P) as a beta product — albeit one that was generally available — as it patiently took the time to get the solution right by working closely with early users. On many levels, Zycus has followed the strategy of Ivalua, which took a strong set of upstream capabilities that it leveraged to build out a complete procurement suite.

Although Zycus has one of the most tightly coupled sets of strategic procurement capabilities today (inclusive of sourcing, contracts, supplier management, project management, spend analysis, savings tracking and broader reporting/analytics), its e-procurement capabilities, including shopping, requisitioning, catalog management and supplier enablement are now worthy of shortlist contention for companies that had previously considered providers like Coupa, Ariba/SAP, Oracle, Verian, Ivalua, BuyerQuest, Wax Digital, Proactisb-pack (now Selectica) and many others.

Zycus now packs a strong integrated suite punch (although e-invoicing, accounts payable automation, receivables financing/payables financing and payments remain areas that are likely to receive further investment as Zycus builds out the “second P” in P2P). In the meantime, Zycus’ biggest challenge with e-procurement will simply be getting into contention to show what it has (we estimate that the provider is currently in less than 10% of P2P deals in North America), something that would be helped immensely by fostering a partner ecosystem of consultants and integrators.

Spend Matters recommends that procurement organizations add Zycus to their shortlist of P2P providers for consideration where e-procurement is either a stand-alone focus or part of an integrated suite decision. Further, we recommend that companies working with Zycus invest the time to partner with their provider and offer as much feedback as possible. Zycus listens to a fault on customer priorities and requirements — and given the limited number of organizations using Zycus P2P at this stage, it is an ideal time to influence the roadmap.
