Afternoon Coffee: Valeant and Walgreens Boots Alliance Make Distribution Deal, Auto Parts Makers Plan for M&As in 2016

Valeant Pharmaceuticals International Inc. and Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc. have formed drug pricing and distribution agreements, which are reportedly aimed at reducing prices and increasing accessibility to Valeant drugs.

Auto parts manufacturers are reportedly interested in merger and acquisition activity in the new year. An Ernst & Young survey showed 60% of automotive executives plan to pursue deals in the next 12 months.

Natural gas prices sank 6% to a 14-year low yesterday after weather forecasts showed warmer-than-normal conditions through the end of the year, which could lessen the demand for the heating fuel. Natural gas prices for January fell 5.4% to $1.882 per million British thermal units (BTU) on the New York Mercantile Exchange, a low not seen since 2002.

The U.S. consumer price index was flat in November, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Inflation, however, did rise last month by 0.5%, which is the largest gain in inflation since December 2014.
