Sourcing Industry Group (SIG) – A 2015 Spend Matters 50/50 Provider to Know

100 companies - 100 days

Sourcing Industry Group (formerly Sourcing Interests Group) is one of our 50 Providers to Know. We will be highlighting 100 companies (50 to Know, 50 to Watch) from our 2015 Spend Matters Almanac over the span of 100 days. Practitioners are encouraged to browse the categories listed in our Almanac to find the provider that best fits their needs.

Sourcing Industry Group (SIG) has grown up considerably over the years. Originally a folksy group of people representing like-minded procurement and provider organizations that got together largely to discuss the business process outsourcing (BPO) market, SIG is now one of the most familiar names in the procurement conference and membership area. In contrast to others, it relies heavily on members (providers and practitioners) to share best practices with each other (e.g., in the form of webinars).

Members also help shape the areas of content — for example, supply chain risk has been a top focus area this year. Content in the form of conferences and events remain at the heart of what SIG does — and what SIG does best. The level of micromanagement that goes into each one is almost unbelievable, and clearly shows the passion the team has for getting conferences right.

We’re excited to include SIG on our Spend Matters 50/50 list for 2015 and would encourage procurement organizations to see for themselves what SIG’s events are like as an entrée to the broader organization and membership. But note: SIG’s strength is really in the indirect, services and BPO areas. Those focusing on supply chain, direct spend and manufacturing issues are likely to be best served elsewhere.

  1. Dawn Tiura:

Thank you for the kind words. We are proud of SIG’s contributions to the industry. As you know, elevating the Office of the CPO to one seen as more strategic, has been one of our key missions. We are so glad to see that as an industry we are finally making progress in that area as well as in outsourcing, which is so often viewed a political weapon versus a strategic tool for world class companies. If you have a moment, please check out Certifications in Sourcing and Governance are now available and the January 4th semester has enrollees from around the world representing global companies like Honda, Bank of Canada, University of California and many others. We would love to have you as a guest lecturer at some point.

Keep up your great work and Happy Holidays to you and your family.
