LogicSource – A 2015 Spend Matters 50/50 Provider to Watch

Sometimes it is impossible to put a label on a firm. LogicSource, a provider that combines professional services, category expertise and its own technology, is one such provider. While “managed services” is perhaps the most accurate label for what it does, it would be wrong to pigeonhole LogicSource in any one professional services or solution area.

The organization, which originally focused on serving clients in the print management and marketing categories by providing tactical sourcing and transactional procurement services, has expanded to serve the needs of retailers and other clients alike (e.g., managing categories to support in-store operations, packaging, logistics, warehousing, capital equipment, contingent labor, etc.).

LogicSource has also developed its own technology. As our colleague Michael Lamoureux writesLogicSource’s platform has “four components — the main e-procurement (sourcing) engine, the analytics platform (designed for finance), digital asset management (designed for marketing) and visual merchandising management (designed for operations).” The platform is purpose-built to support the categories LogicSource manages.

As Michael observes, “Campaigns are much more challenging than regular commodity/product/service sourcing projects where you can just send out a bid for a group of SKUs … to support this type of special project, each campaign starts with a specification where the buyer defines what they are looking for to the best of their ability, defines the workflow, selects the initial suppliers, includes any known products they need (quoted) from the built-in catalog capability, and/or defines any services they need (quoted) and attaches the rate cards they need filled out.”

We’re excited to welcome LogicSource to the Spend Matters 50/50 list for 2015 and look forward to digging deeper into its specialized industry and category-specific approach to procurement managed services.
