Afternoon Coffee: New Emissions Standards for Heavy-Duty Trucks, Agile to Acquire Ajilus

The Obama administration has issued new emissions standards for heavy-duty trucks, calling for as much as a 25% reduction in carbon emissions for big tractor-trailers over the next decade. The rules also call for smaller emission reductions for delivery trucks, school buses and other large vehicles.

Agile Network, a transportation and shipping logistic management company, will acquire Seattle-based supply chain software consultancy Ajilus. The move will ramp up Agile’s e-commerce capabilities.

Cuban port authorities are expected to soon visit U.S. ports on the Gulf of Mexico as the two countries rebuild trade partnerships. Cuban reps are reportedly looking to visit ports in Tampa Bay, New Orleans and Alabama.

Ford Motor Co. said this week it expects to release a driverless car in the next five years, which will be used for commercial fleet operations. The autonomous vehicles would likely be used in cities with pre-mapped zones designed for such cars.
