Afternoon Coffee: What to Expect from iPhone 8 Event, Aquiire Purchases Rights to Technologies from Zakta

Apple is holding the 10th anniversary event for the iPhone Tuesday, at which it is expected to unveil the latest version of the flagship smartphone, according to Quartz. While next iterations in the cycle, the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, are expected, the big reveal will be for what Apple is calling the “iPhone Edition,” which purportedly features “wireless charging, no home button and a powerful set of dual cameras.”

Aquiire Buys New Tech

Aquiire announced Tuesday it has purchased the rights to machine learning and collaborative search technologies from Cinncinati-based Zakta, according to a press release. The exclusive source code rights, for the procurement space, will allow Aquiire to embed and further develop Zakta's patented algorithms within its procure-to-pay suite.

France Strikes

A major union in France has announced 180 protests and 4,000 individual strike actions across the country in response to a planned overhaul of labor rules, Politico reports. Disruptions are expected to hit public transport, intercity rail and air travel, as well as the energy sector.

Cotton Prices

And finally, a commodities update: U.S. cotton prices rose 5.6% in August on a late increase spurred by uncertainty over Hurricane Harvey, Sourcing Journal reports.
