Afternoon Coffee: Airbus Compliance Issues Hold Up Deliveries, Diesel Prices Hit New High

Airbus’ failure to report necessary defense information is contributing to the plane maker’s compliance woes and holding up deliveries on one of its most popular jets, the Wall Street Journal reports. Supplier issues have also created delays: Pratt & Whitney, for example, has been slow to deliver engines, and Rolls-Royce had to pay $800 million to regulators to settle corruption allegations.

Diesel Prices

Prices for diesel fuel jumped this week to their highest point since mid-2015, CCJ Digital reports. The 2.2-cent increase put the nation’s average price for a gallon of on-highway diesel at $2.819.

Bitcoin Futures 

Bitcoin just gained a bit more legitimacy. As CNBC reports, the cryptocurrency will be available for trading at CME starting the fourth quarter in the form of a futures contract. Prices for bitcoin rose to a record high above $6,400 Tuesday morning following the news. 

Consumer Confidence

And finally, an economic update: U.S. consumer confidence hit its highest level in 17 years, Bloomberg reports, with the share of respondents who say jobs are plentiful rising to 36.3%.
