The 2019 lists for Spend Matters’ 50 Providers to Know and the 50 Providers to Watch have been published!

Each year we recognize 100 vendors in the industry as part of two lists: the best-in-class companies you need to know about and the up-and-comers, the growing firms you should keep your eye on.

The 50 to Know and Watch lists take shape after our analysts assess the capabilities for an array of companies. The assessments rely heavily on Spend Matters’ SolutionMap, our benchmarking tool that uses 350-plus RFI questions to rank solution providers for each of  12 market sectors — like E-Procurement, Source-to-Pay, Spend & Procurement Analytics, and three contingent workforce areas. This gives our analysts an independent view of the market, and then they rigorously discuss the top 50 companies to put on each list.

50 Providers to Know

The Spend Matters 50 Providers to Know list highlights leading technology and services providers that continue to raise the bar for procurement technologies and services.

These are the firms that set the industry standard. This year sees more changes to the lists; the 2019 Providers to Know include seven vendors who have graduated from the 50 to Watch list — and six more who were not featured in 2018 at all.

Mergers and acquisitions played a significant role in the population of the latest list, consolidating major players under the banners of companies like Coupa, Corcentric and Sovos. This freed up spots for growing source-to-pay suite vendors and allowed consultants like Everest Group and Shelby Group to join the honorees.

50 Providers to Watch

The 50 Providers to Watch list shines a light on relative newcomers that are pushing procurement forward. These are the companies offering the latest and most innovative solutions in the industry.

The Watch list typically sees more turnover than its counterpart, but this edition raised the bar as fully half of the Providers to Watch are new to the list from last year.

Traditional procurement functionalities such as sourcing and spend management remain center stage with firms like Allocation and Simfoni, while solutions in the financial space are becoming harder to ignore.

The presence of companies like NPI, Mastercard and American Express demonstrates that trend.
