Afternoon Coffee: Johnson & Johnson to pay for its role in opioid epidemic; Tradeshift partners with 71lbs to cut shipping costs

An Oklahoma judge ordered Johnson & Johnson to pay $572.1 million to the state for its part in fueling an opioid epidemic by deceptively marketing addictive painkillers. But since the sum was substantially lower than what investors had expected, it drove up the price of J&J’s shares, reports Reuters.

Tradeshift and 71lbs pair up to reduce customers’ shipping costs

Spend management and payments platform Tradeshift today announced that the “human-backed automated solution” provided by shipping-tech company 71lbs will focus on “reducing shipping costs for Tradeshift’s network participants by pursuing denied refunds, filing claims on the customer’s behalf and ensuring one hundred percent of the shipping costs are credited back to the customer,” according to the release.

Ocean Spray partners with Uber Freight

Juice manufacturing cooperative Ocean Spray has partnered with Uber Freight for its transportation needs.

“We try to stay on top of emerging trends in the industry, so when we received a call from Uber Freight, we followed up on it,” said Earl Larson, Ocean Spray’s vice president of global supply chain and operations.

College move-in season spurs direct supply chains to students’ dorms
