The 6 different ‘flavors’ of GenAI implementations in procurement applications

Procurement solution providers are engaged in a race to implement GenAI in their solutions. It is in part due to the global interest in GenAI that was triggered by the launch of ChatGPT in November 2022 and in part due to the opportunity to easily enable their applications with (Gen)AI as integration with third-party GenAI tools (like ChatGPT) reduces the barrier to entry to the world of AI-enabled solutions.

However, there are multiple ways to embed GenAI in procurement solutions, from shallow to very advanced. Here are the six levels we have encountered that we have grouped into two main categories: co-pilots and agents.
