The world of trade financing (receivables and payables financing) is cloaked in mysterious providers and often incorrectly tagged labels. Supply chain finance, one of the most misused terms in trade financing lingo — approved trade payables financing is an accurate description — is a perfect example. But one of the firms at the original center (actually, its principals) of the SCF boom is Greensill Capital, which we welcome to the Spend Matters 50/50 list for 2015.

Spain’s economy is actually somewhat diverse, and it supports a range of manufacturing and services businesses. So perhaps it’s no surprise that Spain, like France, Germany and other European companies, has developed its own procurement technology ecosystem. And front and center in it is Fullstep, a procure-to-pay suite vendor, which recently, as we observed in a research brief, “expanded into North America with a specialized target on middle market manufacturers.”

In terms of spend under management, the company does rank high among other providers in these categories, certainly in the 30th percentile.

We first came across Intenda some five years ago, when it started making an impact in the UK public sector, with contracts for providing e-auctions for the Ministry of Defense, and for large collaborative buying organizations in health and local government. Its UK operation, based north of London, in Welwyn Garden City, includes sales, management and some development, but its main development center is in South Africa, where the firm was founded.

The firm has been a long-time player (since 1999) in automating contingent labor management and has more recently shored up its support for broader statement of work (SOW)-based services beyond just independent contractors.
