In this opinion paper, we look at why organisations and individuals often leave it too late before looking to innovate and change. Quoting Charles Handy and his work, we explain why you should be radical, even when things are going well! In the context of procurement, we then look at four areas where in our experience many organisations have considerable potential for change and improvement – market informed sourcing, purchase to pay processes, supply chain risk, and staff capability. We highlight the sort of activities that could be considered now, even if there isn’t an immediate "burning platform", and point out that few successful people get that way by simply doing what was done before…
