In this briefing paper, we look at supply chain risk, and in particular the risks that emerge from beyond the first-tier (the direct suppliers to our organisation). Many serious risks emanate from critical points at the second tier or beyond (the suppliers to our suppliers) or from other aspects of the supply chain such as shipping and transportation links.
Getting to grips with what we call “n-tier” risk is not easy in many cases; finding the right information and then using it is a challenge. But in this paper, we will provide some tips on how you can use the available levers to get better visibility and put in place the right mitigation strategies. We also provide some short case studies to demonstrate the sort of issues that can arise from the wider supply chain, based on real-life experience.
