These solutions enable buy-side businesses, along with workforce intermediaries and/or service firms, to source, manage and pay external workers in a relatively “direct” manner. Many also enable the engagement of small service providers, such as boutique marketing or consulting firms, in a relatively “direct” manner. The solution category has expanded and evolved beyond “freelancer management systems” (FMS) and includes providers that support a much broader range of use cases. Solutions today are offered by technology point solution providers, but some VMS providers also offer direct sourcing solutions as a component of their contingent workforce/services suites and multichannel buying networks. A particular solution’s capabilities can include some or all of the following: direct sourcing for individual workers/small service providers; some level of RFX and contracting; candidate matching and selection, compliance and engagement management; “self-sourcing” from a group of pre-vetted workers and/or service providers; project management; VMS and AOR/EOR integrations; and invoicing and payments. Many solutions can also support sourcing directly from solutions like RPOs and online marketplaces, and some solutions come coupled with the solution provider’s own online marketplace/provider network. Finally, these solutions accumulate large volumes and different types of data for analytical & management purposes.
