AnyData Solutions – A New Wave of Analytics Providers

Our hot topic for January and February (guest articles still very welcome) is Spend Analytics. So it seems like a good time to feature a relatively new solution provider to Spend Matters Europe - AnyData Solutions (ADS).

We first came across them when Odesma, the new consulting firm started by Ed Cross and Steve Trainor (ex Xchanging) announced that AnyData were Odesma's chosen provider of spend analytics. Courtis-Pond and his co-founder Steve Hayward came from another start-up spend analytics firm and set up ADS in 2013, with a base in London. Curtis-Pond is the product and sales lead, although a lawyer by background; Hayward is the technological whizz behind the solution.

We have met James Courtis-Pond, one of the founders, a couple of times now. "Our vision is to deliver instantly deployable, agile, fast and cost effective solutions and services that surpass all expectations. Discovering and collaborating deep insights and value from your data into your decision-making processes has never been so easy".

Now my colleagues in the US have recently covered the product as a feature for our Spend Matters PRO subscription offering, going into considerable technical detail, so we won't try and replicate that here. Let's just say that there appear to be some pretty smart aspects to the solution, including the central point that this goes beyond being “just a spend analytics tool. The fact that AnyData is not just a standalone spend analytics toolset that includes classification, cleansing, enrichment and, of course, a dashboard and analytical layer; rather it is a standalone platform for capturing, managing, sharing and collaborating on structured datasets of any type, which also happens to include all the basics you would expect from a spend analytics toolset.

There is also a contract management product that, whilst not attempting to provide all the aspects of a full CLM solution, appears to be doing well in the market as it offers a tool that can be quickly and easily implemented to help organisations address the need for contract visibility. (That is not just being sold to procurement functions either – it could be sales, or the legal community in a large organisation who are interested). Another advantage seems to be cost - much lower than some analytics platforms, particularly the products from the leading ERP providers.

The firm offers a fully managed service to handle the whole process; or clients can simply buy the software and run it in house. So where do they stand in market terms? There a large number of analytics firms out there in the market now, although we have seen a wave of takeovers in the last year or two. But AnyData appears to have some interesting angles and potentially advantages over many competitors - at the least, they appear to be worth a look if you are in the market for a spend analytics product.
