Nancy Clinton and I were at the GO Excellence in Public Procurement Awards held in the glittering surroundings of the Midland Hotel, Manchester last night.
It was a very enjoyable evening, with 500 people, mainly practitioners with a sprinkling of suppliers and others, celebrating the best in public sector procurement. The food was OK, the £1 for the cloakroom a bit petty (sort it out, Midland Hotel). At last year’s event, we had David Smith’s band, the Front Covers, as the after dinner entertainment. This year it was a genuinely amazing mindreader, Kennedy.
The awards were presented by Beccy Meehan, a North-West BBC news presenter, who did pretty well with an increasingly rowdy crowd. She was taller than anyone who received an award the whole evening - in some of the pictures she towers over the recipients (see above)!
Here is the full list of winners - well done to them, all the Highly Commended entries and indeed all the shortlisted organisations. We will have a full review of the evening next week, plus we will be featuring some of the interesting case studies over the next few weeks here too.
