NAO publishes Firebuy report

Firebuy is the procurement body set up to drive collaboration and collaborative contracts across the Fire Services in the UK.  This NAO report is one I can't say too much about for confidentiality reasons I'm afraid; but it is an interesting read and highlights the issues with collaborative procurement in the public sector, particularly when the participating bodies are as fiercely independent as the Fire Services.

By the way, did you know that most of the Fire and Rescue services in Denmark are largely run by Falck, a fascinating company , who also run ambulances and the equivalent of AA rescue  services.  In Denmark, Falck is currently in charge of 65 percent of municipality fire brigades and 85 percent of ambulance services. (Also surprising that it was as far back as 1926 that Denmark started 'outsourcing' fire and rescue services).

While they are profit making, apparently most people in Denmark look on them as if they were a public sector organisation (any Danish readers,  do feel free to comment on this statement!)  So an interesting model for future UK provision of some of these services perhaps?
