Don’t know why I didn’t get an invite to the National Outsourcing Association Awards dinner last week (subtle hint). They even had a band playing after dinner - the Rick Parfitt Junior Band. (I prefer the Front Covers version of Mr Brightside however)!
The full list of winners is below - our particular congratulations to the BBC and Jim Hemmington, their Procurement Director, for their victories. It was pure coincidence that we featured the Digital Switchover Help Scheme contract here on the very same day as the awards (I confess, I didn’t realise they were being held that evening.)
But it wasn’t that contract for which the BBC was recognised. It was the re-competition for the Licence Fee management service – won by Capita after strong competition from IBM and Cap Gemini. The procurement led to significant savings over the contract period, £220 million over the 8-year life of the deal, and offered innovations in terms of new approaches to data analytics and technology to collect more revenue.
If you read Private Eye, you will know that not every contract the BBC has let has been successful, but they’ve continually innovated in terms of how they look at outsourcing over the years I've known them. And they apply some advanced techniques to procurement and supply chain management – some of the best work I’ve seen, for instance, in assessing risk at second tier and beyond in the supply chain.
And congratulations to all the other winners too:
