ProcureCon Day 3 and Some Exclusive News from Co-op Bank

Day 3 is positioned as an additional day of "drill down" sessions at ProcureCon, and it is a somewhat smaller delegate group, but more senior on average than the full event, and perhaps because of those two factors we had some very good debate and discussion. image

John Henke (see picture) presented the findings from his seminal work on the link between supplier relationships and profitability in the auto industry. Talking to people afterwards, I think people are catching on to quite how important this work is. We'll have more on the day and the whole event tomorrow - there is good stuff on topics including supplier innovation, culture and driving change.

But the headline news today was Richard Beaumont, Commercial Operations Director at the Co-op Bank, who told us what he has found in his first few months in a challenging role. And part of his plan is to outsource pretty much all the procurement activity - several hundred million annual spend. There is likely to be an announcement soon about which service provider has been chosen, and we will certainly be featuring that news as soon as we can. The journey for Richard and the organisation will be interesting over the next few months, that is clear, and we hope to keep an eye on their progress here. So more about the ProcureCon event tomorrow, assuming my late flight gets to Gatwick at 11pm tonight, the M25 isn't closed .... Etc!
