Procurement Talent Conference – first thoughts

Yesterday saw the first “Procurement Talent” conference, organised by HWg Business Events in London. I agreed to chair it purely because it seemed such a good idea – we all talk about “people are our biggest asset” and so on, and this seemed  a chance to actually move forward our thinking about that subject.  And I’m pleased to say the event seemed to achieve that goal.

It is remarkable also to have an event where I can honestly say every procurement person speaking was really good – in both content and style. So kudos to Ashley Readshaw (AstraZeneca), Roger Davies (M&S), Chris Taylor (SABMIller), Klaids Lafon de Ribeyrolles (Rolls Royce), and also Andrew Croston (Fujitsu) and Stephen Pearce (Arysta Lifecycle) who ably contributed to he panel debates.

I’ll be featuring the presentations and discussion in more detail here in days to come, but for now, here are just a few of the topics and questions from the event.

  • How do we promote the procurement function more widely and better – we need to avoid thinking we’re “victims”, and we need to show “professionalism and pride”.
  • We have a good story to tell ....
