Reading Festival – bands to watch (part 1)

With the event only a month away, this is the first in our four-part "cut-out and keep guide to artists to see at Reading festival who aren’t already huge and known to everyone” series.

Each week we’ll cover a different genre; so that means Rock, Indie, Punk and Other....

And today we’ll start with ROCCKKK!  Reading’s heritage you might argue, although it was actually a jazz festival way back in the early days. Anyway, here are three bands well worth looking out for.

The Blackout – Merthyr Tydfil’s answer to Linkin Park but much more fun – rap / metal / rock with two hyperactive front men and surprisingly tuneful choruses. Brilliant in smaller venues, how will they do on the main stage at 1pm on Friday?

Tribes – out of Camden with a slightly grungy Nirvana / tuneful rock feel. They're in the Festival Republic tent (the smallest) at around 2pm on Saturday. Strong songs, close to a breakthrough perhaps... this is an acoustic version so not wquite as they'll sound but you get the idea.

Twin Atlantic – 5.30 Sunday in the Festival Republic tent, a slice of tuneful and moderately heavy Scottish rock from the Biffy Clyro/You me at six  influenced young band.
