Our colleagues at Spend Matters US yesterday announced the Spend Matters “50 Providers to Know” and “50 Providers to Watch” for 2018.  You can see the full lists here.

We have some input into the selection from this side of the Atlantic, but given the greater number of serious technology analysts sitting in our US operation, the main decision makers are those who spend a major part of their time analysing solution providers and their products. As they say,

“At Spend Matters, we routinely review the latest procurement technology and service offerings. This uniquely positions us to help procurement organizations with their vendor selection processes. The 50 to Know and Watch lists are the result of intense debate, discussion and refinement among all of the Spend Matters analysts and reflect our unbiased, independent view of the providers you should have on your radar in 2018”.

The Spend Matters 50 Providers to Know list for 2018 highlights leading technology and services providers that continue to "raise the bar for procurement technologies and services". These are the firms that set the industry standard – another way of looking at it is these are the firms that every CPO should know about and understand to some extent.

However, that doesn’t mean they are all doing brilliantly in the market or even have the very best products. I argued that one Europe-headquartered firm should be included as they still have revenues of around $100 million a year – pretty huge for our industry – even though it hasn’t really grown over the last three years and frankly their prospects aren’t great. But they are still the “leaders” in their area, for the moment at least, and yes, I won that argument.

In some ways, the more exciting list is the “ones to watch”.  This list shines a light on relative newcomers that are pushing procurement forward (although there are a handful who have been around a while and really need to push on into the “Providers to Know” list!). But this is where you will find companies offering the latest and most innovative solutions in the industry.

Finally, you can vote here to decide who gets the final spot on the 2018 Providers to Watch list. The candidates are Nomad Health, Efficio and Suplari. Click each company’s name to visit its website and learn more about its offering.

And do visit the Spend Matters Almanac to access detailed provider listings for these and other providers. The Almanac is a vendor intelligence directory for modern procurement covering more than 24 categories and featuring more than 400 solution providers — including our unbiased reviews — and serves as a resource for anyone interested in our objective view of the procurement service provider landscape.
