The Procurement Analysts’ Reel Episode 8 – An Interview with Xavier Olivera

As we explained in our initial post, we are running a series of interviews we have named The Procurement Analysts' Reel – in them we speak to each of our analysts about their areas of expertise, and their thoughts on current market trends within their procurement domains.

We thought it was about time our readers got to understand who it is that is behind our vendor and tech analysis and who contributes to the famous SolutionMap vendor and platform benchmark rankings. The analysts have a deep understanding of the procurement market which can help procurement practitioners and leaders with their business challenges.

Here's Xavier

In a nutshell:

Xavier is a procure-to-pay expert, a lead analyst and Editor at Spend Matters and Spend Matters Mexico Y América Latina.

Xavier’s background and role at Spend Matters

Xavier is an advisor and consultant with over 20 years of professional experience in IT and management consulting services for supply chain, procurement transformation and strategic sourcing. He had previously provided expertise for companies such as Accenture, Bearing Point, SAP and AT&T before he “stepped into the analyst world” of Spend Matters five years ago. As an analyst, he has led the Spend Matters’ procure-to-pay research.

What trends does Xavier observe in procurement technology now and in the future?

Xavier has eagerly observed the evolution of new IT solutions and emerging procurement technology, transforming the procurement industry. As a result, he has seen “procurement extend its position within all organisations to have a more central role.” He says if he was passionate about procurement in the beginning of his career, he is even more so now that procurement is considered increasingly important within businesses. Solutions have unified procurement processes and enhanced user experience.

What does Xavier believe people don’t know about Spend Matters, but should?

Along with helping readers make smarter decisions when selecting procurement technology, Xavier believes one of Spend Matters’ biggest strengths is that the analysts “get into the practitioners’ world with our SolutionMap approach in order to support organisations in becoming more strategic.”

He loves the diversity in Spend Matters’ capabilities. “One day I can be found performing demonstration briefings on vendors, the next I could be supporting the acquisition of a solution provider, the next I could be writing a Make the Case piece (Spend Matters deep-dive analysis of a provider)” he says.

That concludes our interview series, look out for more from our analysts in the coming weeks.
