Musical Archaeology (part 15) – Trumpet!! (Rafael Mendez)

This is an unusual "musical archaeology" but I just couldn't resist when I found this somehow on YouTube. (Persevere beyond the first minute or so and make sure you listen to the "Mexican Hat Dance" at the end of the video. ).  And if your children ever ask you what "virtuoso" is, just show them this.

Amazing stuff. Mendez played with everyone from major orchestras to Mexican dance bands, and featured in a number of films - here he is briefly in  "Holiday in Mexico".
