This weekend’s hot new albums – REM and Noah and the Whale

This weekend's opportunity to listen to new albums pre-release comes from REM and Noah and the Whale.

The hotly-tipped NATW album Last Night on Earth moves further away from their nu-folk origins, and Charlie Fink their lead singer has got over Laura Marling, and is a bit jollier than he was on their last frankly suicidally depressing release. Listen here until Monday on their website.

REM need no introduction, but the buzz is that Collapse into now is their best album for 10 or 15 years.  They seem to have been going for my entire adult life and there's still an air of excitement about a new album (for me anyway) which takes some doing.  See what you think here on NPR, again only available till Monday so listen now. And there's an exclusive video on the Guardian website too.
